cucumber lime basil martini...

The past two weeks or so have been cooler in Milwaukee. We've had a pretty consistent temperature of around 73 degrees, which has been heaven. For those of you who have never been to Milwaukee {or Wisconsin for that matter}, we tend to have disgustingly humid summers and frigidly brutal winters... fall and summer usually last around three days each. the other extreme we have is that one day it will be 55 degrees and the next it will be 90 degrees... which is pretty similar to the abrupt and rather unwelcome heatwave that we have today.

As I attempted to venture out into the sticky Milwaukee heat for lunch, the only thing on my mind was a cocktail. a lime cocktail. a cucumber lime cocktail... and then I found this recipe for a cucumber lime basil martini from kitchen konfidence...

Cucumber Lime Basil Martini

  • 8 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 half lime
  • 2 oz. / 2 shots cucumber vodka (Square One makes a good Cucumber Vodka or you could make your own
  • ¾ oz. / ¾ shot simple syrup*
  • Crushed ice
  • Additional fresh basil leaves (optional)
  • Thinly sliced cucumber (optional)

Fill a cocktail shaker about half way with crushed ice. Muddle in fresh basil leaves (mash them up with the ice). The leaves should look pretty beat up and the ice should start turning green. Squeeze in 1 half lime. Add cucumber vodka and simple syrup. Cap your shaker and go to town. Strain mixture into a martini glass and garnish with a fresh basil leaf or thin cucumber slices.
